Food Industry
Small in post count, but a growing sector with strong local links. Food processing and preservation, food safety and hygiene standards, quality control, packaging and storage — with strong links to Uttarakhand's horticulture and dairy produce.

Why Food Industry matters in Uttarakhand's schools
Uttarakhand grows apples, plums, apricots, malta, millets and a great deal of milk — and most of it leaves the state unprocessed. Food processing is where the value is. The trade teaches students how to preserve, process, pack and sell food safely, with posts in Almora, Tehri and Uttarkashi.
The teacher runs the school's food lab and demonstrates real processes: jams and pickles, baking, dairy products, millet products, and the hygiene and quality-control routines that food safety rules demand.
What students learn
- Food safety, hygiene and sanitation standards (FSSAI basics)
- Preservation techniques — drying, pickling, canning, refrigeration
- Fruit and vegetable processing: jams, jellies, squashes, ketchup
- Baking and millet-based product preparation
- Dairy processing basics — paneer, curd, ghee, ice cream
- Quality control, packaging, labelling and storage
